Ispwich Population Growth Tipped to Continue

Ipswich's population is set to soar past the 175,000 mark as thousands of people continue to flock to the region.

During the first quarter of 2011, Ipswich City Council figures show the city's population increased by 1113 people, equalling an annual growth rate of 2.6 per cent.

The number of dwellings in the Ipswich area increased by 490, while council approved subdivision applications creating 536 proposed new residential lots.

The strong growth is tipped to continue thanks to the future expansion of Springfield and the development of the Ripley Valley.

Queensland's Urban Land Development Authority (ULDA) predicts that the Ripley Valley Urban Development Area (UDA) will eventually house 120,000 residents.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said the population growth was the result of years of hard work from the council.
